What did you find under your Christmas tree this year? We took the plunge and treated ourselves to a new camera! Oh…and we also bought our 6 month gym membership, but who wants to hear about that anyway? So, in addition to getting ourselves back into shape, our New Years Resolution is to work on our photography skills with our new Canon T4i. We know absolutely nothing about cameras but we have to start somewhere, right?
Christmas day is usually a bit depressing in our opinion. There is so much excitement leading up to this day, but once all of the presents are unwrapped on Christmas morning, the excitement comes to an abrupt halt. And no, its definitely not all about the presents. But after attending countless holiday parties, Christmas shopping, wrapping gifts and indulging in all kinds of yummy food, we always end up overwhelmed with exhaustion and are almost a little thankful it’s finally over. While we missed a traditional Christmas with our family this year, it was kind of nice to actually just enjoy the holidays without all of the stress. So we planned on spending the day at home playing with our new toy, but throw in a little spontaneity, and it actually turned out to be one of the most memorable Christmases ever. Plus we were able to test out our new camera!
Mon Cham, Nong Hoi Royal Project
Our day started out with a motorbike trip to a hilltribe village on top of a mountain. This place is a hidden gem in the outskirts of Chiang Mai. We ate lunch over a small cliff surrounded by rolling hills and sunflowers. Talk about a beautiful day!
Ziplining in Chiang Mai
As we were making our way back down the mountain, we came across a group of people getting dropped off on the side of the road all decked out in ziplining gear. We decided to stop and check out the prices and packages as it was a company we had never heard of, Eagle Track Zipline Chiang Mai. 15 minutes later, with much hesitation from Brittany, we were all signed up and suited up. We went with the silver package, 20 platforms that lasted approximately 1 hour for 1900 THB. There were two other packages as well (16 platforms for 1600 THB or 35 platforms for 2400 THB and discounted prices available for booking in advance).
If you are looking for a little adventure, we highly recommend Eagle Track Zipline. Our tour guides were awesome and the course was full of thrills!
Christmas Dinner in Chiang Mai
We ended our Christmas day with dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Chilli Bell Kitchen. It’s a little off the beaten track, located off Canal Road near the Chiang Mai International Convention Centre, but it is a peaceful spot and full of charm. While many restaurants around the moat were serving Christmas dinner at 1300 THB or more per person, we paid 1500 THB total for four people. This included 2 appetizers, 1 soup, garlic bread, 4 smalls mixed salads, 1 large salad, 4 full western meals, 3 glasses of wine and 3 large Heinekens. I’d say that’s a deal!
