Pai is a chill mountain town in northern Thailand, about 3 hours outside of Chiang Mai. It is favored by backpackers for its relaxed, hippie vibe and delicious food. Don’t be fooled though, there is much more to Pai than getting stoned, eating and napping in a hammock. If you dare to venture out on a motorbike, please proceed to read our post on Motorbiking 101, and then explore one of the most beautiful regions of Thailand.
Start by visiting one of the unique coffee shops that Pai has to offer, such as this one that provides the most comfortable chairs to swing in while you drink your coffee and take in the magnificent views.
Visit Thom’s Elephant Camp, where you can feed and interact with the elephants for FREE. They do offer mahout training courses, tours and bamboo rafting services as well. They seem to really love and take care of the elephants here. It’s worth a visit!
Take a short cut through a Thai village…and get attacked by the kids!

If you’re not keen on taking part in the classes, you can visit as a spectator.
The one thing you cannot leave Pai without seeing is the Pai Canyons, Thailand’s very own Grand Canyon. The best time to visit is at sunset if you want to capture stunning pictures like the ones below!

For 5 years, we lived primarily in Thailand and built our online business and location independent lifestyle while we traveled to over 30 countries. We’ve had house sitting gigs on 3 different continents and we’ve even appeared on HGTV’s House Hunters International.
