Ever since the Bachelor episode where Juan Pablo takes the girls rolling down the hill in a giant inflatable ball aired, I’ve been dying to give xorbing a try. While I planned on waiting until we visited NZ, the place where the xorbing craziness all began, I ended up giving it a go when my fellow Bachelor fans/friends came to visit me in Chiang Mai. We had spent the day gallivanting around Mae Rim and decided to end our day with a bang, xorbing at the X-Centre.
Zorbing in Chiang Mai
We almost decided to forego the xorbing when we found out it was 600 baht for one roll down the hill which lasts about 10 minutes. But we were reassured this would be more than enough time. Turns out, that was the truth! We had a blast and couldn’t hold back our laughs and screams for the solid 10 minutes we were inside the ball, but when our time was up, we were totally okay with it. The flip flopping going on in my stomach was intense and while I’m not usually prone to motion sickness, I was a little worried about 3 seconds in. Unlike the version of xorbing we saw on the Bachelor, we were strapped in to the sides of the ball, therefore making complete 360 turns with the ball. When we finally reached the lake (which was probably less than 30 seconds but felt like 10 minutes), we had to unstrap ourselves without falling through the opening into the lake and then maneuver ourselves to one side so we could attempt to run like a hamster back to land. By the time we made it to land and escaped the ball, we were a hot mess. I don’t think we would have gone again if we had the option too. Let’s just say, we looked nothing like the babes on the bachelor after our xorb experience!

Would I recommend xorbing in Chiang Mai? Sure, given you have no neck or back injuries and are not susceptible to motion sickness. It’s definitely a thrill that’s like no other. But trust me when I say that 10 minutes is all you need…
Have you ever been xorbing? How did you like it?
