Songkran is a festival held in Thailand in celebration of the traditional Thai New Year, April 13-15. Traditionally, the tossing of water onto one’s shoulder was a symbol of washing away the bad and a blessing of good fortune for the new year. Over the years, this has progressed into the world’s largest water fight, drawing tourists from all over the world.

During these 3 (or sometimes more) days, locals and tourists alike line the streets armed with water guns, buckets and trash cans filled with water. Everyone is a participant. Everyone is fair game. The Thais show no mercy! Our advice? If you don’t want to get wet, don’t leave your house or hotel. Better advice? Don’t be a sourpuss. Grab a gun and join in the fun because it is perhaps the best time to be in Thailand!
